How goods move, and what they pay.
The duty position depends on where you sit and where the goods go. Three rules cover most flows; confirm specifics with Abu Dhabi Customs before committing.
Duty-free import of raw materials, machinery and equipment inside designated zones; customs exemptions apply on entry into free zones.
Goods moving from a free zone into the UAE mainland clear customs at that point (standard 5% duty on most goods, GCC Common Tariff), with ATLP handling the declaration digitally.
Exports leave through Khalifa Port, air cargo or Etihad Rail with a single digital clearance, no duty on re-exports from zones.
